<p>Today, you can find many people on social media who just do a brain dump no matter what condition their brain is in, and it can make them look really bad. When I find people doing things that I don&#8217;t like, who are not practicing proper etiquette on Twitter and Facebook, etc., I either simply un-follow them or un-friend them. It&#8217;s that simple.</p>
<p>Here are 4 tips that are just what Mama said&#8230;</p>
<p>1. <strong>Think before you post.</strong> Whether you&#8217;re posting a comment on another person&#8217;s blog, creating your own blog post, making a tweet, a Facebook comment, a Facebook post, it doesn&#8217;t matter. Think before you post. If you&#8217;re having a bad day or something&#8217;s getting you down, create in draft mode and do the posting, the actual publishing later. You&#8217;ll thank yourself in the morning. A good question to ask yourself, &#8220;Would it bother me if my Grandmother read this?&#8221;</p>
<p>2.<strong> Be professional in your manner</strong>. The best way to be looked at as an idiot online is to just go out there and be a fool. Be professional. Be courteous to other people. The same types of professional behavior that you would use in an office and or business environment, you want to use on social media. The accepted forms, greeting people properly, not butting in on conversations, not immediately running up to someone to sell them your product. Practice your professional manner online just the same as you would as in person.</p>
<p>3. <strong>Follow the terms and conditions of the program or platform you&#8217;re using</strong>. I was just recently asked a question, &#8220;how do I get Facebook to unblock the number of friend requests I can send?&#8221; I found out that basically what the person was doing was spamming, and Facebook&#8217;s terms and conditions don&#8217;t allow that. They only want you to make friend connections with people that you know. You may meet someone in an event, send them a friend request, and they may not get to that friend request until later and they mark you as a spammer. They just forgot who you are. Keep track of your invitations. Follow the terms and conditions of whatever platform you&#8217;re on, whether it be LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, any of them. Make sure you follow the terms and conditions, or your account could be shut down.</p>
<p>4.<strong> Mind your manners</strong>. I don&#8217;t know how many times I see people where I honestly believe they don&#8217;t understand how they&#8217;re coming across, but they&#8217;re coming across as ordering people around. Mind your manners. Use please and thank you. There are a lot of abbreviations for the P&#8217;s &#038; Q&#8217;s which makes it really easy when you don&#8217;t have a lot of characters. You still need to mind your manners.</p>

<p>I received my first invitation to Google + a couple of weeks ago and thought to myself, &#8220;Oh no, something else to add to my plate.&#8221;</p>
<p>It took me a couple of days before I even went in and took a look.  What made me look was the new little red button at the top right of my screen when I have my gmail open.  I just had to go and look!</p>

<p>I still wasn&#8217;t sold when I went in and took a look around.  I updated my profile and didn&#8217;t really see anything of significance.</p>
<p>Thank goodness for the likes of <a title="Mari Smith on Google +" href="https://plus.google.com/112707199408484711520/posts" target="_blank">Mari Smith</a> and<a title="Google + Hangout" href="http://www.paulcolligan.com/2011/07/19/lets-do-a-google-hangout/" target="_blank"> Paul Colligan</a>, two people I follow closely.  Because of their hard work I began to get a much better understanding of the power of Google +.</p>
<p>I am really looking forward to the launching of the &#8220;Business&#8221; functions, especially for the &#8220;Hangout&#8221; function.  Might we finally have some real competition for Go To Webinar?</p>

<p>Everything you say and do online is there for other people to see,  for other people to get to know who you are. Therefore, you need to be  very careful about what you put online. If you&#8217;re in a bad mood or  something has really got you upset, stay away. Don&#8217;t go online and post  something that you might regret later. Or if you have absolutely have  to, do something in draft mode, and then go back and take a look at it  later. Here are five tips to help you protect yourself online.</p>
<p>1. <strong>You need to focus</strong>.  You need to focus on one particular topic or one particular area in  your business that you want to be known for. I have seen lots of people  out there who are involved in 10, 15, 20 different things. My automatic  response is oh my, they must be a scatter brain. Focus. Develop a  reputation for a specific area, a specific business. You can move on a  develop other areas later.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Watch what&#8217;s happening in your industry</strong>.  You&#8217;ll be able to see the trends, where things are going, what is  happening, who to believe, and who not to believe. All of the different  things that are going on your industry, what&#8217;s the new technology that  applies to your business, what&#8217;s the new news that&#8217;s happening, maybe a  new procedure, a new program. Watch what&#8217;s actually happening in your  industry so that you, yourself, are also going to stay current. You want  to be seen as the expert in your area.</p>
<p>3. You need to<strong> be clear</strong> in what you&#8217;re talking about and you need to <strong>be&#8230;</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em>At a press event Thursday at its headquarters in Mountain View, California, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner and SVP of product Deep Nishar discussed the company’s new product strategy and revealed a few new products.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Weiner says that the company has three central goals as part of its quest to deliver value to its membership. First, LinkedIn wants to be the professional profile of record. Second, the company wants to be the primary source for professional insights. Finally, LinkedIn wants to be ubiquitous in the workplace.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>SVP of product Nishar then took the stage to explain that vast amounts of business information pass through LinkedIn’s servers, things like profile views, connections, polls, sharing stats and more. The challenge is finding a way to synthesize and deliver this information in a way that gives its users actionable business data.</em></p>
