Google Indexing Is Scary, Do I Really Need it?

By

Does the phrase Google Indexing bring to mind extremely complicated coding and pages and pages of text that all look like garbldy gook to you? For most people Google Indexing is scary!  Lucky for all of us that’s just because we don’t know how it works.

If you haven’t read my previous post, check out What Does Being Indexed in Google Actually Mean – Solve the Mystery

In that post I explain how it works.  Today I want to explain how to do it!  Brace Yourself!

How long does it take for Google to index your page?

If your website is brand new it may take a couple of months. Google changes their algorithm on a regular basis and they don’t warn us or tell us about the changes.  In fact they have been known to make 500 – 600 changes per year.  Some of these changes have a big impact on our websites and other can have no impact at all. It’s their trade secret. Google tells us…

There is No set time in for Google to initially index your site – the time taken can vary.
The time it does take may vary based upon factors such as;

   * Popularity of the site (Whether it has any links to it)

   * Whether the content is Crawl-able (Server Responses and Content type)

   * Site structure (how pages interlink)

It is possible for a site to be crawled/indexed within 4 days to 4 weeks.
In some cases, it may take longer.

As always with marketing on the web there are a number of ways you can have your content indexed;

  1. Do it yourself by hand
  2. Do it yourself using tools
  3. Get someone else to do it for you

Submit your link by hand, one at a time.

Yes you can submit one link at a time to Google for indexing, however you must have a Google account in order to do this.  It’s super easy to get one, simply create a gmail account or use one you already have. Once you are logged into your new or current account go to this link ==> https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url  Be sure to favourite this link if you like this process and plan on using it again. There is nothing worse than knowing you’ve done something in the past that worked and now you can’t find the link!  Trust me, I’ve been there!

 Do it Yourself Using Tools

I personally use a free WordPress plugin called  Yoast SEO, this ensures that I write my blog post for both real people and the search engines. My goal for every blog post is to have both the “Readability” and “SEO” green just like the example on the right below.  Yoast does provide details as to what you need to change in order to have the status change to green. When your posts are written for the search engines as well as people you increase your chances of being indexed.  AND if you post your quality content on a consistent basis you will find that it is indexed pretty quickly.  My new blog posts are sometimes indexed within an hour of posting them without me having to do a darned thing!

Here is a tool that you can use to check if your site/pages have actually been indexed. http://indexchecking.com/

You can also submit your website and or blog post directly to the search engines, here is one sample for you;  https://www.entireweb.com/free_submission/

You can also have someone else do all the work for you. I needed to have all of my sites, blogs and posts indexed in order to be found in the search engines and I found a tool I use every day that works well.  I have been using this tool for just over a year and would like to help you out too. Rather not do this over and over again?  I can do it for you if you would prefer.

Once you sign up all you need to do is send me your links (including your social media posts) and we’ll make the magic happen.
