One of the features of Facebook, an excellent product that has helped people and changed the way they connect with family and friends online – pictures! Facebook is hosting more that 10 billion + photos, more than any other site online. The feature creates an easy way for people to share photos and connect family and friends with photos.

2009-03-25-facebook_02If you have not started using this function now would be a good time photos are a very powerful tool that many people use. “In many ways Facebook is to photos what YouTube is to videos.”

Here are 3 of the many ways to use the photo function in Facebook…

You can share fun, whether you take the photos yourself of find great photos of others, you can post them on your wall so that others can share in the fun. My computer man Michael Dropkin is always sharing fun photos and videos with me, I remind him to share the joy and post them on his Facebook wall. They are a way to demonstrate what you care about and a little piece of who you are.

When you attend events and you do attend events right? Take pictures of the people you meet and the speakers, preferably get someone else to take your picture with the speaker. Post these pictures on your Facebook wall and “tag” the other people who are in them. When you “tag” someone in a picture it will show up on their wall too, a super easy way to share a picture with them. You will not have to send a special email or message to let them know you got the pictures posted, it simply shows up on their wall, how easy is that!

2014-01-09_1228You can also easily share your products on your Facebook page. It is a fun way to demonstrate to people the products and services you have available.

What Does It Mean to Poke Someone On Facebook?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on What Does It Mean to Poke Someone On Facebook?

Facebook has a function called poking. You will find it on the left hand side underneath the picture of the friend you wish to poke. You simply need to click on the word “Poke FirstName”. Facebook will let you know what you have done just in case you clicked the button by accident.

You are about to poke Donald. He will be informed of this on his home page.

What is poking and what does it mean? Remember when you were a kid and you used to poke someone to get their attention? Well there are two points of view about poking on Facebook. Of course those who like and those who don’t!

2013-12-27_1149Facebook poking can be just a simple hello, Hi I was thinking about you and just wanted to let you know. The person who dropped by your house when you were not home, but left a note to say they came by. Sometimes when we have absolutely no contact with someone we believe they have forgotten about us or even worse, don’t care. The Facebook poke can simply let someone know they are remembered.

It can also be to remind someone of something. Perhaps they were going to send you something or do something for you or even the other way around. You simply want to let them know they are still on your radar and that you remember or to jog their memory.

Like that tap on the shoulder you receive in a crowd; you turn around wondering who in the heck would do that to you and lo and behold there is an old friend!

Facebook allows you to poke someone who is not your friend. Perhaps you are wondering if they would say yes to a friend request, maybe you can give them a little poke to see if they would go over to your wall and send you a friend request.

Just for fun, I love to poke my young niece just to let her know that I am thinking of her.

OR

Then there is the insistent poking. Remember when your children were young and they would be on ya for something, “can I Please, Please Please??” They would not give up or give in until they got what they wanted.

Remember back to when you were a teenager and just to bug someone you would just keep poking them with your finger? “Did Ya? Did Ya? Did Ya?”. I personally remember when this happened between two boys and it would end up in an argument or a fight. These memories are quite unpleasant.

Do you believe Facebook poking will have an impact on your business?

Recently one of my clients told me that “the twitter scene it is so daunting”. I remembered back when I first started and how I too just did not quite get it. However I promise you Twitter actually has a pretty short learning curve to get started.

failing11What is it that people are afraid of, I did some research and found

1) Fear of failure – “What if I do something wrong? Say the wrong thing?” This fear of Twitter can be overcome because of a short attention span, Twitter moves quickly and even if you were to “oh my gosh, make a mistake” it will not be visible for long. Depending upon how many followers your followers your tweet could disappear in a second. This quote is so very true, failure means you are actually doing something which is more than most people.

Every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success. Napoleon Hill

2) New, too quick and big learning curve – even though Twitter may seem a little strange in the beginning think of it like being able to send a little brochure to millions of people. The learning curve is not huge, there are only about 5 or 6 main features to learn. Sitting down with someone for some focused learning and you could have it down pat in an hour.Overwhelmed-Worker3

3) Can be overwhelming – who do you follow, who not to follow or does it really matter? There are a lot of people who Tweet about “going to Starbucks for coffee” and may not care. That’s OK you just let that stream by, however it is a customer in your local area you may just decide that you need a coffee too and go and join them. Twitter is used for Many, Many, Many reasons.

4) People believe they can’t handle it – once you understand the power of Twitter you can effectively use it for your business in as little as 15 minutes a day. You can use some of the many tools out there that make it much easier or you can have someone else assist you with your Tweeting.

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. Mahatma Gandhi

The real value of Twitter is listening. You can easily see what your customers and potential clients are talking about, have concerns around or are looking for. You may be able to quickly and easily “fill the gap” for them.

Twitter, Is it Really Worth It?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Using Twitter as a business tool seems to make good business sense however wading through the overwhelming number of tweets of nonsense and vulgarity to arrive at tweets which might have even minimal interest at the business level make it truly daunting. Have you missed the point of using this valuable social media marketing tool?

Twitter can be full of nonsense and vulgarity and depending upon how much work you want to put into in you can precisely control what goes into your Twitter stream. Attempting to control the flow of tweets in your Twitter Stream is like attempting to control the flow of traffic on the freeway just because you are there. It is just not possible, my advice is not to attempt to control it!

I would suggest that you look at Twitter from the perspective “who gets to look at you and what you have to offer”. Who are you putting your information in front of? You want to get people’s attention and then when you have their attention you can interact with them and have them join or opt in to your information.

Yes YOU want to get THEIR attention, not the other way around.

Once you have their attention you then want to influence your followers by providing quality information and service. Be out there, be visible and remember what may be nonsense to you may not be to someone else.

twitter_bird_blockSome people believe they will get the attention of others by consistently tweeting nonsense, affiliate links or using vulgar language. The attention they get from me is “blocked!” There are millions of people on Twitter and many of those people would not block what you or I would block.

Twitter could be a 24 hour per day job if you let it. The thing to do is to check it regularly, whether that means once a month, week or day is your choice. It is a flow of traffic of ALL kinds, some of which you want and some that you don’t want.twitter-traffic

Once you have some of that traffic diverted your way remember to show appreciation, find and share great information. This is one of the proven ways to actually keep their attention. This information does not always have to be yours, it can be anything that is consistent with you and your message.

I have found that sharing great stories, current events and motivational quotes to be appreciated.

Twitter, OMG I Can’t Keep Up

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Have you been working with Twitter for a while now or very active for just a short time? Having trouble keeping up with the stream of tweets from all your followers and wondering how on earth are you going to keep up when it hits 5,000? My advice to you is to stop trying.

Attempting to keep up with all the tweets in your Twitter stream is like attempting to drink from the hose off a fire hydrant at full flow. There are many people who tweet continuously and also have good information.

How many Tweets is too many Tweets?

The answer to that depends upon you, where you are in your twitter following and education. When I first started on Twitter I thought a couple of times per week was sufficient. As my following and understanding grow so does the number of my tweets. This will likely happen to you too! It is important to be You and to do what works best for you and your brand. Tweet what interests you! I always follow people with dog pictures in their profile, that’s because I love dogs. What do you love?

With Twitter you want to use what you can to the best of your ability. Please STOP attempting to read every Tweet in your Twitter stream. As you interact with fellow followers, ask and answer questions, encourage and support others you will find your “like minded people.” These are the people you really need follow more closely. The relationships that you want to nurture and grow.

106_twitter-follow-me-postTo follow these people more closely you will need to use the tools that have been made available. First I recommend that you create and consistently and diligently use Twitter Lists. From there you can then add HootSuite, a free social media management tool. When I first discovered it I was so very excited as it makes staying in touch with your followers much less complicated.twitteradder

By the use of this tool I am able to manage my Twitter account in only 15 minutes per day, I am able to keep up! It really is about the relationships you build, making new friends on Twitter is quick and easy when you have a process to follow and excellent tools to use.
